Growth in LCD monitor sales were impressive; its proportion out of total monitor sales in 2006 surged 28.5 percentage points to account for 68.1% of all new monitors purchased, up from 39.6%,' says Yoong Siat Siah, senior analyst of personal Systems Research at IDC Asia/Pacific.
The analyst adds that considerable LCD price drops in the first half of last year accelerated CRT-LCD replacement in the consumer segment, and the trend of LCD-desktop bundling by PC vendors also contributed to strong LCD sales in 2006.
Overall, the total PC monitor market locally grew 15.1%. The branded standalone monitor market grew 18.2% and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market, with monitors bundled with MNC PC vendors, grew 11.2% over 2005.
However, the LCD market change will affect to consumers behaviors, based on the data above we can easily get an idea that because of the new technology and the whole LCD market changes, consumers change their focus from CRT monitors to LCD monitor, maybe in the future, LCD monitors will replace CRT monitors.
